2024 Application Form for all Scholarships
Deadline: July 4th, 2024
The Jason Carl Crase Memorial Scholarship
Jason was many different things to many different people. He was always out to see what life had to teach him and how he could use his experiences to shape the world around him—whether it be onstage in a song or through a poem in a park on a sunny summer day. Jason shared his talents with our community at our theatre and was vital in forming the Playhouse as it stands today. He motivated generations of young performers who saw him onstage captivating audiences who fell more in love with him at each performance. He has such a rich history with our theatre that ranges from being a Director in our STARS of Tomorrow youth program while leading our shows, to coordinating events and sharing his love of our theatre and performing with our community. The Jason Carl Crase Memorial Scholarship was created to ensure that every child is able to participate in our STARS of Tomorrow program, by providing the $325 cost for costumes, materials, and tuition of a child and family with financial hardship.
The Christopher Waterman Memorial Scholarship
A teacher of Brevard Public Schools and veteran performer for nearly 30 years, perhaps no one embodies the Playhouse’s mission to educate through the arts as much as Christopher Waterman. Having performed in over 120 productions, he served as a director both at the theatre and at schools throughout the county impacting thousands of young people and giving them an appreciation for education and the performing arts. The Christopher Waterman Memorial Scholarship is an unrestricted scholarship for anyone pursuing post-secondary education, whether it be vocational or other studies beyond high school.
The Jim Melia Memorial Scholarship
Jim Melia served as the Vice Principal of West Shore Junior/Senior High School and was an active volunteer at the Playhouse for many years. He passed away on August 2, 2013. Jim was an avid supporter of the “Stars of Tomorrow” program and was forever encouraging the young people to pursue their higher education in order to achieve their dreams for the future. The scholarship is for both new and returning college students that have served at The Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse, either as a performer in “Stars of Tomorrow” or the “Broadway on Brevard” productions, a musician or a member of the production team. The scholarship was established in 2014 to serve students. Each scholarship is a $1,000 award and may be used at any college or university in which the student has been accepted or is currently enrolled.
