LINK TO MUSICAL SIDES

Recording Guidelines:

  • You may record each of the four excerpts separately, but each excerpt must be performed in a single, unedited take with no cuts. Once recorded, all four excerpts should be combined into one continuous video for submission.
  • Follow the notated music precisely. Pay close attention to all performance indicators, including dynamics, style, articulation, and phrasing.
  • Maintain the correct tempo. You may use a metronome to establish the tempo before each excerpt, but do not play along with the metronome.
  • Ensure high-quality audio and video. While the video does not need to be professionally produced, we need to clearly hear and see your performance.

Email your unlisted YouTube or Google Drive link to CVPAuditions@gmail.com with your name and interested character/instrument. Please ensure that your video is set to public viewing. This should be sent in addition to virtual submissions or before attending in-person auditions.

For these roles, this is a two-step process. You must submit your performance video in addition to either auditioning virtually following the provided steps or attending in-person auditions.

SHOW DESCRIPTION

Based on the beloved film, School of Rock follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn extra cash by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There, he turns a class of straight-A pupils into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. Bursting with high-energy performances and electrifying live music, can Dewey lead his students to the Battle of the Bands without their parents and the school's headmistress finding out?

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

Auditions for School of Rock are being held earlier than usual to accommodate the necessary rehearsal time our young performers will need to prepare their instrumental parts, in addition to learning their lines, vocals, and choreography. Most of the adult ensemble placed in this production will have limited to no rehearsals until late July, with the exception of named principal characters.

The casting team of School of Rock is seeking to fill all children roles with a performance age of 8-13 years old. The students of Horace Green Preparatory School are serious rockers with bold personalities and a passion for performance. We are looking for young artists with strong stage presence, sharp comedic timing, and the ability to portray confidence and growth throughout the story. While the creative team will provide direction and support throughout the rehearsal process, we’re seeking energetic, dynamic performers who come in with a strong foundation and a readiness to grow.

See below for more information regarding the character breakdown in addition to more information about being in the ensemble of this production.
