Auditions for The Spongebob Musical

March 16, 18, & 19

Interested performers who are auditioning (in-person and virtually) are invited to take a moment and read the Welcome to Auditions link for important information related to this audition. 

VIRTUAL AUDITION

Please note that this audition requires an additional submission of dance. Interested performers auditioning virtually are asked to submit a thirty second to one minute recording showcasing their strongest style of dance.

IN-PERSON AUDITIONS

Doors open no earlier than 30 minutes prior to a scheduled audition. 

March 16th at 10:30 a.m: Children 12 years and younger
March 18th at 6:30 p.m: 13 years and older 
March 19th at 7 p.m: 13 years and older

Performers interested in auditioning in person can fill out the in-person application and bring it completed to the audition.

On the application for this audition are questions related to double casting, understudying, and swinging (not performing unless called upon to). Performers should answer these questions honestly and truthfully, while maintaining transparency about any other needs (will only be cast with a fellow auditionee/conflicts/etc.) Statements alluding to/presenting indirectness as well as vague responses (maybe/will discuss later/etc.) are strongly discouraged from being placed on the application. 

SHOW DESCRIPTION

Plunge underwater into a stunning all-singing, all-dancing, brand-new dynamic stage show, The SpongeBob Musical! When the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home, SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save the fate of their undersea world. With lives hanging in the balance and all hope lost, a most unexpected hero rises up. This exciting new musical featuring irresistible characters and magical music is sure to make a splash with audiences young and old. The future is bright, the future is bold, the future is The SpongeBob Musical!

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

The SpongeBob Musical is a physically demanding show. All performers considering auditioning for this production should be in strong physical shape. Most roles will require varying amounts of over-the-top dancing and physical acting performance to bring these classic animated characters to life onstage. Some performers may climb and perform on tall objects or wear costumes that are restrictive/large body with minimal visual or physical movement. The Playhouse is looking for kind, hardworking, team first, physically adept actors and singers, with good physical hygiene, who can fully commit to the upbeat, energetic, and colorful iconic characters with an understanding of comedy with truth and humanity. CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

NOTE:  The potential ages are meant to give performers a point of reference and will be determined based on the audition process. 

SpongeBob SquarePants (Range: C3-B4)
Optimistic, innocent; energetic and sometimes hyperactive. This actor should move well, be in strong physical shape with a high level of athleticism and be an extremely physical actor - unafraid of climbing and being on tall objects. Naturally funny with great comedic skills and exceptional precision. Strong pop tenor with exceptional acting abilities and vocal stamina.

Sandy Cheeks (Range: A3-E5)
A brainy athletic Texan squirrel who came to Bikini Bottom for a research project. SpongeBob's most trusted ally on their quest to stop the volcano from erupting. Martial Arts skills a plus - unafraid of climbing and being on tall objects. Solid vocalist with good comedic timing.

Patrick Star (Range: Bb2-Bb4)
Well-intentioned, but clueless, an innocent; a big softie, who can also be prone to sudden child-like fits of rage or frustration. Strong comedic timing.

Squidward Q. Tentacles (Range: A2-F#4)
Grumpy, cynical, dry, short tempered, generally negative but lovable! This actor must move well with exceptional tapping technique and character vocalization.

Eugene Krabs (Range: B2-Bb4)
The greedy owner of the Krusty Krab, and employer of SpongeBob and Squidward. Does whatever he can to make himself richer.

Sheldon J. Plankton (Range: B2-G#4)
His personality outweighs his size- slick, scheming, nefarious; has the ability to charm; determined, he will do anything to get ahead in life; but his heart is still open enough to rekindle a romance with his wife. This character will need to dance and rap. Strong vocalist.

Karen the Computer (Range: G#3-F#5)
Sassy, the computer wife of Plankton. She's been there for Plankton's every scheme and plot. Strong comic actress, as well as singer and mover.

Pearl Krabs (Range:Bb3-F#5)
Mr. Krabs' teenage daughter who just wants to be understood by her father and sing with the Electric Skates. This is a character role with gospel vocal overtones.

The Mayor of Bikini Bottom (Range: F#4-B5)
Standard politician with good acting abilities. Solid soprano.

Perch Perkins (Range: E2-E4)
Standard news reporter.

Patchy the Pirate (Range: D3-F4 F5 falsetto)
Misunderstood pirate from the painting.
Gender: Male Presenting 
Age: 18 to 40

Electric Skates: (Tenor, Baritone, Bass):
Rock and roll band members, the Skates are hard-core rockers. Very comfortable on skateboards, scooters, or other wheely devices. (ability to do tricks a plus). Also open to rollerblades/inline skating if the actor is expert. Solid rock vocals and harmonizing is required. 

Ensemble:
The Playhouse is currently seeking a medium sized ensemble of all ethnicities to portray a variety of characters who act, sing, and dance their way throughout the production. These tracks will include Sardines, Plankton’s Backup Hip-Hop Dancers, Tap Dancing Sea Anemones, Pirates, Assorted Sea Creatures, etc.  Some of these tracks may include portraying supporting named characters iconic to the franchise. All tracks in the ensemble will require varying amounts of over-the-top and precise dancing as well as exceptional physical acting and singing to bring the world of Bikini Bottom to life onstage. Performers interested in auditioning should be proficient in musical theatre and/or jazz-style dance. Advanced tap and/or hip-hop skills are required for select dancers within the show.
