SHOW DESCRIPTION

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a lively and family-friendly musical that brings one of the Bible’s most beloved stories to life through an unforgettable mix of music, humor, and heart. Follow Joseph, a dreamer whose gift for interpreting dreams takes him from favored son to slave, prisoner, and ultimately one of the most powerful men in Egypt. Along the way, he faces jealousy, betrayal, and hardship, but never loses sight of hope.

Filled with catchy songs, colorful characters, and storytelling that spans everything from country to calypso to rock and roll, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a joyful celebration of perseverance, forgiveness, and the unexpected paths that can lead us to our purpose.

Casting Notice: The production team has previously cast the role of Pharaoh. All other roles remain available and will be cast through the audition process.

 

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

NARRATORS (3)

Vocal Range: Strong singers of any vocal part; harmonization and solo work required.The storytellers of the production, guiding the audience through Joseph's extraordinary journey. These three featured performers function as a unified storytelling team, sharing narration, vocal responsibilities, and stage leadership throughout the show. Seeking charismatic performers with strong vocal abilities, confident stage presence, excellent storytelling instincts, and the ability to work seamlessly as an ensemble. Strong movement skills and comfort leading large musical numbers are preferred.

The three Narrators will share featured solo opportunities and harmonies while serving as the connective thread that drives the story forward.

 

JOSEPH

Vocal Range: Tenor

The eleventh son of Jacob and his father's favorite child. Blessed with the gift of interpreting dreams, Joseph's confidence and optimism create tension among his brothers, ultimately leading to his betrayal and sale into slavery. Through perseverance, wisdom, and compassion, Joseph rises to power in Egypt and ultimately reunites with and forgives his family. Requires a strong vocalist with warmth, sincerity, and leading-man presence.

 

JACOB

Vocal Range: Baritone

Joseph's father and patriarch of the family. A respected and loving father whose favoritism toward Joseph unintentionally sparks conflict among his sons. Seeking a mature performer with strong character acting abilities and a commanding yet compassionate presence.

 

JOSEPH'S BROTHERS

Vocal Requirements: Strong singers and confident movers

Joseph's eleven brothers are central to the story and provide many of the show's most memorable musical moments. Each brother should bring a distinct personality and character. Casting will seek a variety of ages, body types, backgrounds, and performance strengths.

Brothers include:

Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Naphtali, Issachar, Asher, Dan, Zebulun, Gad, Benjamin, Judah

 

POTIPHAR

Vocal Range: Baritone

A wealthy Egyptian official who purchases Joseph as a slave. Sophisticated, dignified, and somewhat larger than life. Often portrayed with a dry wit and theatrical flair. May be double cast with Jacob.

 

MRS. POTIPHAR

Vocal Range: Alto/Mezzo-Soprano

Potiphar's glamorous and flirtatious wife. Bold, confident, and determined to win Joseph's affection. A memorable featured role requiring strong comedic timing and stage presence.

 

BUTLER

Vocal Range: Tenor/Baritone

One of Pharaoh's imprisoned servants. A featured character role typically played by one of Joseph's brothers. Looking for a performer with strong comedic instincts and a distinctive character presence.

 

BAKER

Vocal Range: Tenor/Baritone

Another of Pharaoh's imprisoned servants. Also typically portrayed by one of Joseph's brothers. Should provide a strong physical and comedic contrast to the Butler.

 

ENSEMBLE

Adult Ensemble

Seeking energetic performers who sing well, move confidently, and enjoy creating a vibrant theatrical world. Ensemble members portray wives, servants, Egyptians, merchants, and other featured roles throughout the production.

Children's Choir

A featured children's ensemble that appears throughout the production, helping tell the story and adding energy, heart, and excitement to the production. Young performers should be enthusiastic, focused, and comfortable singing and moving as part of a group.
