Children’s Mainstage Audition Preparation Workshop

This 3-hour workshop has been created to help prepare children ages 7-13 with the skills and confidence to audition for a Broadway on Brevard mainstage production. There are three mainstages shows this year in which children will be part of the cast including Peter Pan, Music Man and Mary Poppins.

The first half of this specialized workshop will focus on the singing portion of their audition. We will provide and subsequently teach multiple pieces of appropriate audition material. The students will then be broken down into small groups to be coached on how to best present themselves to the production team. In addition, we will teach the students how to properly interact with their accompanist, create a memorable introduction, and instill the confidence needed to execute a successful singing audition.

During the second portion of this day participants will be educated in what to expect from a typical dance call including how to warm up, what clothing and shoes are recommended, and how to navigate unfamiliar choreography.  They will participate in a mock dance call in which they will learn a dance combination emphasizing the use of character and performance in the movement.  They will “perform” this combination in small groups just as they would at a dance call.  We will discuss how to make the most of the dance audition for dancers and non-dancers.

Proper audition etiquette will be emphasized throughout the entire workshop for both the vocal and dance portions.  We will briefly touch upon the call back process and what they might expect should they be called back to sing for a specific role.

This program will be instructed by Emily Cabana who leads our College Audition Preparatory Studio, and Kristin Ciuro who is the program director for the CVP Dance Forum.  Space in the class is limited and is expected to fill quickly.  Please secure a place in the workshop.

Day:        Saturday September 24th
Time:        12:00 PM-3:00 PM
Tuition:        $45

Each participant should bring their own snack and water bottle.  There will be a brief breaktime mid-session to allow the participants to have a snack and use the restroom if needed. We will also use this time for individual questions and answers.

We look forward to working with the youth of our community to foster a love of the theater and teaching them skills that will support them in the upcoming audition and beyond.
