Job Summary
The Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse is currently seeking cosmetologists or individuals interested in interning in our Hair and Makeup Department! Have you ever wanted to work within our wig and backstage areas where we build, style, and maintain multiple wigs for performers? Cosmetologists and potential interns will work with cast members applying wigs, prosthetics, facial hair, theatrical makeup, and guiding accurate makeup application. This position will report to the Hair, Wig, and Makeup Designer and will focus on the proper design and maintenance of synthetic and human hair wigs for live events and performances.

Responsibilities
- Assist in maintain all wigs (washing, combing, drying, setting, and styling) for all of The Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse entertainment offerings and any special events
- Help assemble and coordinate make-up kits for performers
- Guide entertainers’ makeup application for show and sets
- Prolonged standing and walking to multiple areas within the theatre
- Support performers with pre-show, intermission, mid-show wig/costume changes and retouches
- Work with chemicals daily including hair products and cleaning solutions
- Flexible with work schedule, including time of day and weekends
- Additional Personal Protective Equipment (face shields, goggles, refillable hand sanitizers, etc.) may be required
- Partner with the Costuming Department to ensure quality and design are consistently maintained
- Works directly under the supervision and guidance of the Resident Hair, Wigs, and Makeup Designer
Basic Qualifications
- Be at least 16 years of age
- A valid Driver’s License
- Familiarity/Knowledge/Interest with synthetic and/or human hair styling
- Familiarity/Knowledge with appropriate styling tools
- Candidates who are self-motivated, responsible, and have excellent organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- A valid Florida Cosmetology license
- Two (2) years of experience as a licensed Cosmetologist
- One (1) + years’ experience creating or styling synthetics wigs
- Recreate wig styles from photo documentation
- Styling experience with period styles involving finger waves, French twists, Gibsons and braiding
- Experience working with performers to pin wigs and apply facial hair and prosthetics
Hourly pay to be negotiated based on experience.
