Hiring Notice: Audio Assistant - Part Time

Job Summary

The Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse is currently seeking a part-time audio assistant to support the Resident Audio Designer and Operator in building and operating the sound department for rehearsals and performances. The Playhouse is open to any candidate who is passionate about sound design/operation or learning more within this department and is currently seeking candidates who can begin work within the next 30 days. 

This part time position typically revolves around a cycle of two-week technical rehearsals followed by four weekends operating Broadway on Brevard performances. This position typically will then have a two or three-week break between these cycles. Opportunities to mix and design other shows within our “Spotlight Series”, which include outside artists, may arise. 

The Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse provides affordable community theatre and promotes lifelong education in the performing arts for Brevard County residents and visitors. With its family of local performers and technical staff, the Playhouse’s full line up of Broadway Musicals have earned it the nickname “Broadway on Brevard”.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the mixing and designing in all aspects of the sound department for productions and performances
  • Help assemble and coordinate the orchestra pit and stage for performances. Including setting up and tearing down audio gear (speakers, microphones, instruments, etc.)
  • Support performers by placing and removing microphones for rehearsal and performances
  • Manage various audio internal and external production projects and provide regular status updates in production meetings
  • Partner with the Music Department of Live Theatrical Productions to ensure quality and design are consistently maintained
  • Troubleshoot and repair sound and audio equipment
  • Works directly under the supervision and guidance of the Resident Audio Designer and Operator
  • Able to work in a physically demanding role that requires lifting up to 50 lbs as well as climbing, squatting, and standing for long durations of time within the theatre
  • Flexible with work schedule, including time of day and weekends

Basic Qualifications

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • A valid Driver’s License with reliable transportation
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and grow skills
  • Ability to work with performers and staff members of all ages.
  • Positive, professional demeanor, and ability to work as part of a team
  • Candidates who are self-motivated, responsible, and have excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Seeking candidates to begin work within the next 30 days

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience live mixing (front of house and monitors)
  • Experience working and mixing a live orchestra, musicians, and/or vocalists
  • Proficiency in programming and operating digital consoles and audio programs
  • Knowledge of theatrical terminology and interpreting documentation

Hourly pay to be negotiated based on experience.
