SHOW DESCRIPTION
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a beloved story of courage, sacrifice, forgiveness, and hope. When four siblings step through a wardrobe and into the magical world of Narnia, they find a land trapped in an endless winter and caught in a struggle between good and evil. Along the way, they discover unexpected friendships, face difficult choices, and learn what it means to stand together for something greater than themselves. Filled with adventure, wonder, and heart, this timeless story reminds us that even in the darkest seasons, there is always hope.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
The Playhouse is seeking a diverse and dynamic company of performers to help bring the extraordinary world of Narnia to life. Adult performers of all ages are strongly encouraged to audition, with opportunities for a wide range of performers, including strong character actors. Many members of the company will help create the larger-than-life creatures and characters of Narnia through specialty costumes, puppetry, physical storytelling, and ensemble work. Expressive, energetic performers who are ready to make bold choices, embrace transformation, and fully inhabit this magical world are strongly encouraged to audition.
Most speaking roles will require the use of a British accent in performance. An accent is not required at the initial audition.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
PETER PEVENSIE
Suggested Age: 14 – 21 years old
The eldest of the Pevensie children. Responsible, protective, and determined to do what is right, even when he is unsure of himself. Peter grows into a courageous young leader as the children become part of the fight for Narnia. Requires confidence, sincerity, and strong stage presence.
SUSAN PEVENSIE
Suggested Age: 13 – 20 years old
The second eldest Pevensie sibling. Intelligent, practical, compassionate, and often the voice of reason. Susan approaches the strange world of Narnia with caution, but proves brave and fiercely loyal when it matters most. Requires warmth, maturity, and grounded emotional presence.
EDMUND PEVENSIE
Suggested Age: 10 – 15 years old
A complicated and deeply important young character. Edmund can be stubborn, sarcastic, and resentful, making him vulnerable to the White Witch's influence. His journey through betrayal, consequence, forgiveness, and redemption requires an actor capable of both edge and vulnerability.
LUCY PEVENSIE
Suggested Age: 8 – 13 years old
The youngest Pevensie sibling and the first to discover Narnia. Curious, joyful, compassionate, and remarkably brave. Lucy believes wholeheartedly in the people and world around her, even when others doubt her. Requires a spirited performer with imagination, sincerity, and a strong emotional connection to the story.
ASLAN PUPPETEERS
The great lion and true ruler of Narnia. Powerful, commanding, compassionate, and deeply wise. His presence should immediately change the energy of the stage. This production will bring Aslan to life through large-scale puppetry, requiring performers with excellent physical awareness, focus, and ensemble instincts.
THE WHITE WITCH
The self-proclaimed Queen of Narnia, whose power has kept the land trapped in an endless winter. Elegant, calculating, intimidating, and dangerous. She possesses tremendous authority and rarely needs to raise her voice to command a room. Requires a performer with exceptional presence, control, and the ability to portray a truly formidable villain.
MR. TUMNUS
A kindhearted faun who becomes Lucy's first friend in Narnia. Gentle, nervous, charming, and somewhat eccentric. Though initially caught between fear and doing what is right, Tumnus ultimately finds the courage to follow his conscience. A strong character role requiring warmth, humor, and vulnerability.
MR. BEAVER
A lively, outspoken, and goodhearted resident of Narnia. Practical, courageous, and eager to help the Pevensie children understand their role in what is happening around them. Requires strong comedic instincts, physical characterization, and an energetic personality. Specialty costume and/or physical character work may be involved.
MRS. BEAVER
Warm, spirited, practical, and every bit as capable as her husband. Mrs. Beaver brings humor and heart to the story while remaining fiercely committed to helping the children and protecting Narnia. Requires excellent character instincts, comic timing, and an animated physical presence. Specialty costume and/or physical character work may be involved.
FENRIS ULF / MAUGRIM
The White Witch's ruthless wolf captain and one of her most dangerous servants. Predatory, commanding, and completely devoted to enforcing her rule. Requires a highly physical performer with strong stage presence and the ability to create an imposing, animalistic character. Specialty costume, movement, and/or puppetry may be involved.
FATHER CHRISTMAS
A warm, joyful, and commanding presence whose arrival signals that the Witch's endless winter is beginning to weaken. He brings gifts to the Pevensie children that will become important to their journey. A memorable character role requiring warmth, personality, and a sense of wonder.
THE DWARF
A loyal attendant and servant of the White Witch. Watchful, cunning, and firmly aligned with her rule. A strong character role with opportunities for distinctive physicality and personality.
THE PROFESSOR
The eccentric but wise owner of the country house where the Pevensie children are staying. Thoughtful, intelligent, and more willing to believe the impossible than the children expect. A smaller but memorable role requiring warmth, authority, and understated humor.
THE CREATURES & PEOPLE OF NARNIA
Fauns, dryads, woodland creatures, animals, followers of Aslan, and servants of the White Witch make up the magical world of Narnia. These are featured character opportunities, not simply a traditional ensemble. We are seeking bold, expressive performers who enjoy physical storytelling and creating distinctive characters. Performers may portray multiple roles and work with specialty costumes, masks, puppetry, movement, and larger-than-life characterization throughout the production.
